red hand quote bA busy couple of months coming up for me, with art activity in Plymouth and Exeter.

I will present a new performance ‘His Voice’ derived from orchestrated Twitter searches at the launch party for Counter Plymouth Art Book Fair at KARST on Friday October 23rd. Party runs from 1900 to 2200hrs. Other entertainment will be offered by Howling Owls Records from Bristol.

At the Book Fair itself also in KARST on Saturday October 24th I will present new publications; a series of 4 booklets that suggest scores or directions for multiple voices; and a set of cards that play on educational song sheets.

In November I will show new work as part of a group show, Surface Contact, at The Gallery, Exeter Phoenix. The work will include a three channel video piece that examines relationships between speech and gesture; and cards and posters that consider language as something that is taught. The other artists in the show are Katy Connor, Bryony Gillard and Clare Thornton.

This exhibition will show in conjunction with the artists’ participation in the Redefining Print project in association with Double Elephant Print Workshop in Exeter. On November 19th at Exeter Phoenix a day-long symposium will discuss a range of topics around contemporary print practice. The four artists in Surface Contact will present at this symposium, speaking about their participation in Redefining Print over the past year.

On Saturday December 5th I will perform a version of ‘His Voice’ as part of a half-day of interventions, activation and performance around the exhibition Surface Contact. These events will take place at Exeter Phoenix from 1430hrs.

Also as part of the Redefining Print project, a portfolio of 15 new print works, The Exeter Portfolio, has been published. These works, including a print of mine mixing screen print and etching, are currently on show at Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter.

documentation of Care & Attend at Chelsea

Emma Cocker has now put documentation online of the Care & Attend event she curated with Joanne Lee for the Society of Artistic Research at Chelsea School of Art on April 30th. I performed ‘flat-head self-tapping’ from the balcony of the Banqueting Room.

flat head Chelsea“Mark Leahy stands at the balcony—a kind of Juliet—as we look up in admiration, listening to his words alliterating in association, forming narrative, forming nonsense, forming a net of wistful longing.”
