on being spoken through as conduit for sticky words

As part of EVP on Tour, at Cube, Bristol, 7.00pm, Sunday May 19th.

For Muster Page Habit 2, I propose an intersection of speech / thought and vocalisation that teases together a sensing of language as speaking through the body, that performs a talking that is thrown from the speaker outwards to a public / for a public / making public in the hope of hearing by hearers. The project considers agency and subjecthood as audited in textual representation. Tracking through word and sound it crosses Beckett’s Lucky, the novels of Christine Brooke-Rose, William James’ writing on consciousness and speech, the essays of Heinrich von Kleist, and Avital Ronell’sThe Telephone Book.

Electronic Voice Phenomena, 19 May at The Cube, Bristol

dbiieaff

I’ll be performing at the Bristol leg of this EVP Tour at The Cube, Bristol on Sunday May 19th. Also on the bill are Hannah Silva, and Holly Corfield-Carr, among others. The evening mixes sound art, performance, text, and installation. Tickets are available now. I will send more details of my piece soon.

Electronic Voice Phenomena is a new experimental literature, performance and music show that feeds on the corpse of paranormal pseudo-science.

The EVP programme takes its inspiration from Konstantin Raudive’s notorious ‘Breakthrough’ experiments of the 1970s, where he captured voices-from-beyond in electronic noise. Themes of otherness, the profane and the divine join with new approaches to writing speaking and performing in a suite of new interlaced works – featuring poets Hannah SilvaRoss Sutherland and SJ Fowler, and hauntological synth-pop group Outfit. The Bristol show also features performance and installation works by Mark Leahy and Holly Corfield Carr.

text for LOW PROFILE’s 10 Year book

Over the last week I’ve been working on a short text for a new book that LOW PROFILE are putting together, with support from ICIA in Bath. It marks 10 years of Hannah Jones and Rachel Dobbs working together, and includes contributions from a number of other writers. The working title for my piece is: ‘3 or 4 Things I Know About Them’, and it looks at some recurring aspects of LOW PROFILE’s practice across the past decade. Looking forward to seeing the publication when it comes out.
